Utah Real Estate Education Waiver Registration and Reciprocity

If you have a real estate license in another state, you might be able to waive some of the education requirements to get your Utah Real Estate License.  If you are a sales agent in another state, you can waive requirements to get your Utah Sales Agent License, or if you are a Broker in another state, you can waive education requirements to get your Utah Broker License.

1. Contact the Division of Real Estate

You can find the Utah Waiver Application (Reciprocity Application on the Division of Real Estate Website. Look under Real Estate -> Education -> Education Waivers.

From the Division of Real Estate Website, you can find the waiver requirements at the bottom of the Reciprocity Agreements page.

Under some conditions Utah will waive some or all of the licensing education requirement.

If you have formal education that you believe is similar to the Utah Licensing Education requirements such as real estate university courses or a law degree you should contact the Utah Division of Real Estate to discuss an education waiver.

Note: If you are a Utah Resident but hold a license in another state you would benefit from following the directions below for non-residents who have a license. The State of Utah may waive some of your education requirements. Utah requires the student to obtain any waiver of education requirements before they register for classes.

If  you are licensed in another state you must contact the Utah Division of Real Estate to provide a copy of your license history and request a “Waiver of Education” based on the education you have already experienced in connection with your real estate license.

Utah requires that schools not enroll non-resident agents before the student provides a copy of the “Education Waiver” issued by the State of Utah to the school to guide registration for the classes not waived. This is to protect students from registering for education that they do not need.

Students who have a Utah Waiver should email the waiver to us. The waiver becomes your completion certificate, after we sign and stamp it.

2. Email us your Waiver and Register for Courses

If you have received a Candidate Education Certifying Document (education waiver) from the Utah Division of Real Estate, and you are ready to enroll for courses, you can get started immediately.

2.(a) Send us a Copy of your Utah Waiver

Open your email client and email your waiver PDF, called the Candidate Education Certifying Document that you received from the Division of Real Estate to [email protected].

2.(b) Enroll in your Required Course

$175 – 24 credit hour Sales Agent Waiver Course

$225 – 30 credit hour Broker Waiver Course

What do I do with my education waiver?

After you have submitted a copy of your education waiver to the school, we recommend setting up an account with Pearson VUE testing centers.  You will need this account when you are ready to take your licensing exam.  Setting your account up now will speed up the process of signing up for your exam later on.

Once you have created your account, fill out and submit the Client Waiver Request Form that accompanied your education waiver.  Submit the completed form to [email protected].

You are set!  Go ahead and log in to your course.  Complete each of the instruction section, practice exams, and the course evaluation.

3. Complete your Course

After you complete all of your required courses, we will sign and stamp your Candidate Education Certifying Document (Education Waiver) and email it to you.  You are required to take your signed and stamped waiver with you to take the license exam.

4. Schedule and Pass the License Exam

You can schedule your exam at a PearsonVUE Test Center near you.  You will need to apply for an exam waiver to only take the Utah exam:

Once you have completed your 24 hour or 30 hour Utah licensing course, The next step will be to sign up for the licensing exam.  There are some specific steps to follow.

4(a). Obtain your signed and stamped education waiver from the school

Our system will notify the instructors once you have completed your course. An instructor will then add their signature and stamp to the waiver. This will act as your proof of course completion. This signed and stamped waiver will then be emailed to you. Please allow 1-2 business days for the signed waiver to arrive.
Proofread the waiver and contact us if any spelling or name corrections need to be made.

4(b). Create an account with Pearson VUE testing centers

If you have not yet created an account with Pearson VUE testing Centers, you will need to do so now.

Make a note of the candidate ID number that is generated for you. You can find this number by going to your Profile once the account is created. It is easy to miss. Click on the >> arrows on the left side of the dashboard screen to display the Candidate ID number.

4(c). Fill out the Client Waiver Request Form

In the email that the Utah Division of Real Estate sent you, 2 documents should have been attached. One was the Candidate Education Certifying Document (aka the aforementioned education waiver). There should have been a second document entitled Client Waiver Request Form. This document must be filled out. A sample of this document will also be enclosed in the email that contains your signed education waiver.

4(d). Submit your documentation to the testing center

The test is administered by Pearson VUE testing centers. You will need to submit both the Client Waiver Request Form and the Candidate Education Certifying Document to Pearson VUE via email or fax. Postal service mail is also possible, but not recommended. The Post method will take longer.

4(e). Await further instructions from the testing center

The testing center will need to process your submitted documents. This may take up to a week. Pearson VUE will contact you once the documents have been processed to inform you that you have been authorized to take only the Utah portion of the licensing exam. Follow the instructions that Pearson VUE provides.

4(f). Bring your documentation to the testing center on your testing date

When you visit the testing center on your test date, be sure to bring a copy of both the Client Waiver Request Form and the Candidate Education Certifying Document with you. You will also need to provide your social security number and 2 forms of Identification. At least one form of identification must be a picture ID.

4(g). Important note about your waiver’s expiration date

Near the bottom of your education waiver, you will see an expiration date. You must complete the entire licensing process, including the exam and license application, by that date. After that date, your education waiver will not be valid. If you need to apply for a waiver extension, you will need to contact the Utah Division of Real Estate.
